brownie Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 From the Italian agency AGI. JAZZ LEGEND COLEMAN'S SAXOPHONE FOUND (AGI) - Varese, July 18 - Ornette Coleman was moved when he was told that his beloved saxophone had been found. The extremely valuable saxophone is a 30-year-old 'Selmer' who was made explicitly for the 'jazz legend'. It was found by the Police of Lonate Pozzolo and Ferno, two small towns located near Milan's Malpensa airport. The thief, who was apparently not aware of the instrument's actual value, had left it unattended inside the airport. Coleman had decided to stay at one of his friend's in Lugano hoping that someone would find his sax. The instrument was stolen while Coleman was waiting for his flight back to New York in Milan's airport. (AGI) - Quote
paul secor Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Why did the story put 'Selmer' and 'jazz legend' in quotes? I guess Selmer might be ok, because it's a brand name, but was the writer questioning the fact that Ornette is a jazz legend? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Perhaps the words "jazz legend" were the only ones in English in the original version of the story. MG Quote
