I went to Tower Sunset yesterday. The store was officially at 30% off, but they were having an additional 10% off yesterday and today, making 40%. Given Tower's full list price starting point, it finally made it worth it, and I bought way too much. Ah well.

I looked for those Fania reissues though and couldn't find them anywhere. Their World music pickings were thinned out quite a bit, although I did get a couple more Ethiopiques, etc.

They did have a few Mosaic Selects, though, with a starting point price of $54. With the 40% off, that makes them about $33. I didn't buy any, but I saw Freddie Slack, Shank & Cooper, and one other on which I am blanking.

Yeah, same here. I saw the Dizzy Reece Select, but when I went back it was gone.

I dropped by the Dallas location a couple of weeks ago and actually had two or three CDs in hand, but then I looked at the regular price. $18.95?? Sure, 30% off is nice, but when they have that kind of a head start it kind of sucks.

Ain't it the truth.

Stopped by the Harvard Square Tower last Wednesday and the jazz and classical sections were decimated, though discounts were still only 30% off.

All of the Criterion DVDs were gone, too.

Still plenty of rock and pop stuff in the bins, though.

But what of the Minutemen?

The jazz and classical sections at Broad and Walnut in Philly have been picked clean. Although, I managed to pick up "Tes Esat" for $9 bucks. They are still restocking rock/pop sections.

Hey, BruceH! Anything "hip" (at least to folks our age) such as the Minutemen is already gone. No Television, no Eno, no Pere Ubu -- NADA!

I did visit again last night and the discount is down to 40%. I picked up a Mike Leigh film, "Career Girls" for six bucks (Katrin Cartlidge!), as well as "An Angel at My Table," my favorite Jane Campion film and one of the only Criterion DVDs left (yet the price was no better than currently available on Deepdiscount). Also found a copy of Gigi Gryce's "the hap'nin's" in the dwindling jazz section.

However, I won't rule out another visit in a week or so to see what's left...

At least through tonight, the Mountain View and Campbell (CA) Towers have a 40% off sale PLUS 5 for the price of 1. I was able to buy 10 cds for under $90.

However, the Campbell Tower's jazz section is somewhat thin at this point. (Still worth looking at...)

I was at the NYC store at Broadway and 66th this past Monday. Cds were at 40% off then. The inventory was prettty well picked clean but I still managed to find some things I wanted and to spend 70 bucks.

At 50% off I may take a ride to the Paramus store this week.

We asked the clerk when was the last day. She told us it was the 21st of December.
