Guy Berger Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 I listened to this. Good stuff. I really like Cannonball's playing during this period, when it opened up and became more adventurous. I also enjoy Charles Lloyd's playing as a sideman. Too bad the sound quality isn't better, though it isn't terrible. Guy Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 (edited) Mister Grant's son is trying to sell a bunch of his broadcasts. I have been sent some for consideration. What is the source of this material? edit to add question mark. Edited August 17, 2006 by Chuck Nessa Quote

Guy there's a Kenny Dorham show with Sonny Red and Cedar Walton that Alan Grant broadcast available on the Magnetic Records, which I always presumed was a bootleg company. I've since replaced it with a lower generation reel that was transferred to CD. So its safe to say that there are more than a few Grant broadcasts in the trading market. Quote
MartyJazz Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 One of my favorite private tapes is of a "Portraits in Jazz" broadcast of April 30, 1965 in which Sonny Rollins was featured with a quartet that included Herbie Hancock, Herman Wright and Beaver Harris. Anyone know if that one is being made available as I would love to get a better generation copy? I would appreciate a PM with the link to the site in any case. Quote
