ghost of miles Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 The BBC reports that a talking fish has predicted the end of the world: Zalmen Rosen, from the Skver sect of Hasidic Jews, says co-worker Luis Nivelo, a Christian, was about to kill a carp to be made into gefilte fish in the city's New Square Fish Market in January when it began shouting in Hebrew. "It said 'Tzaruch shemirah' and 'Hasof bah'," Mr Rosen later told the New York Times newspaper. "[it] essentially means [in Hebrew] that everyone needs to account for themselves because the end is nigh." --snip-- It instructed him to pray and study the Torah, but Mr Rosen admitted that in a state of panic he attempted to kill the fish, injuring himself in the process and ending up in hospital. The fish was eventually killed by Mr Nivelo and sold. Many members of the city's Jewish community are now certain that God, troubled by the prospect of war in Iraq, has revealed Himself in fish form. AfricaBrass Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 Are they sure it wasn't one of these guys? Quote
shawn·m Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 …how prophetic. For the fish, the world did come to an end. Quote
chris olivarez Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Been a lot of fishy things going on so this doesn't surprise me. Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 It's pretty clear to me that the fish was sincere, that it really believed the end was near. I'm sure it wouldn't have said the things it said just for the halibut. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I'd love to add to this conversation, but I really shadn't... Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Hhhmmm, kinda funny that one of the 'chosen people' winds up in the hospital after duking it out with a carp. Quote
Joe G Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Wouldn't be the first... Jonah had a hell of a time with that whale. Quote
