Miles Davis/Stan Getz/Lee Konitz

The OJC CD called Conception listed under all three of these gentlemen's names includes a track entitled 'So What' and credited to Gerry Mulligan, according to AMG.

This tune is completely different from the Miles composition of the same name, I assume?

Did Mulligan record it elsewhere?

Thanks,

Bertrand.

Can't put my hands on the LP right now, but IIRC "So What" is a typically catchy Mulligan line on "Love Me or Love Me" changes.

IIRC the Concert Jazz Band (early 60s) recorded that "So What" as "Apple Core" (?)

I have the records in question , but I am away from my collection right now and can't confirm that So What is the same as Apple Core , but another version of Apple Core is on this recording :

Yes, that's it -- "So What" is "Apple Core," on "Love Me or Leave Me" changes. Mulligan clearly liked them; he recorded "Love Me" undisguised with Brookmeyer in concert in Paris in June '54. That affinity reminds me that some of Mulligan's musical instincts, rhythmic ones especially, were rooted in the '20s.

I would guess the "undisguised" was decided by the label, not Mulligan.

I don't see why. They play the melody of "Love Me or Leave Me" straight out, not the "Apple Core"/"So What" line.

I suggest you read again.
