slide_advantage_redoux Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 (edited) I came across an odd LP while organizing and sorting this collection. It is called Brains on Fire and it is under the name Heiner Stadler. The label is The Musical Heritage Society. On "The Fugue #2 - take one" and "Heidi": Jimmy Owens Joe Farrell Garnett Brown Don Friedman Barre Phillips Joe Chambers On "All Tones": Tyrone Washington Heiner Stadler Reggie Workman Lenny White Any thoughts on this release/composer? I have been so busy organizing these LPs that I haven't taken time to play anything yet. Edited September 23, 2006 by slide_advantage_redoux Quote
rostasi Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Ha! Funny that MHS would've re-released this. Originally on Labor records - German bandleader and composer. Outside jazz charts with hints of classical avant-garde is probably the best way to describe it. I think it's one of his best, if not, the best recording of his. Rod Quote

JSngry Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Heiner Stadler is definitely a cat worth checking out. If you ever come across this one, carpe diem: Featuring Thad Jones, Georges Adams and Lewis, Stanley Cowell, Reggie Workman, Lennie White (sic), and not a cliche in sight. Quote
mikeweil Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 .... and not a cliche in sight. ... not on any of his recordings. Stadler's musical vision is a totally unique brand of Third Stream, in some way, but with a lot more meat to it. Jim's right - that Tribute to Monk and Bird is a gas! Quote
