Randy Twizzle Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 In my travels through time I found this article. I wondered who these unfortunate musicians were and what happened to them after the attack. A google search shows that it was the Sammy Stewart Orchestra, a society orchestra out of Columbus Ohio. They went on to have some success throughtout the 20s and later editions of the band even included Chu Berry and Sid Catlett http://www.redhotjazz.com/stewart.html Quote
Christiern Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 So Florida was a shameful place, even then. Does anything good ever come out of that state? Quote

marcello Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 (edited) I read somewhere that Florida had the most lynching of any southern state. Here it is: Florida's legacy of voter disenfranchisement Edited September 25, 2006 by marcello Quote

Christiern Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Not entirely. I am hard put to come up with positive Florida contributions when it comes to those things man has control over. At least in recent years. Well, there's the Adderley Brothers, but think of the political mess that Florida is. Dangling chads, Anita Bryant, fanatic Cuban exiles and a pandering governor come to mind, but that's only a start. We can come up with negatve things when discussing any state, but Florida seems overwhelmingly negative, to me. Quote

Jazzmoose Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 So the question should really be "does anything good ever stay in Florida, or get the hell out while the getting is good?" Quote
