bluenoter Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 Yeah, I really wanted to go. But I just traveled to NYC for Dennis G.'s gig at Tonic last week. Quote
bluenoter Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 (edited) I'll swing by. Great. If you feel like it, tell us how the show was. [dumb portion of this post deleted] Edited August 14, 2003 by bluenoter Quote
Dmitry Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Sorry, I couldn't make it. Got lost in the subway tunnels and when I came out the show was over. Quote
alankin Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 (edited) I drove up from Philly for this and got more than I expected, i.e. the blackout! I was in Downtown Music Gallery when the lights went out at 4:10 pm. It took a while to realize this wasn't just a neighborhood thing. They decided to go ahead with the gig anyway as an acoustic show. The guitarist had a lute with him. They tried to find an acoustic bass for Hugh, but they couldn't locate one. Thirty minutes into the show, someone lent him a Martin acoustic guitar and he joined the show. The music was good, if not what I was expecting, the atmosphere was odd -- the show was illuminated by an emergency light and a couple flashlights. It was one of the strangest days in my life and I'm not sure that I've recovered yet. Did get to chat a bit with Elton and Hugh in DMG before the gig... Edited August 15, 2003 by alankin Quote
