Shannon Dickey
Does anyone on here know about an LP Eddie Harris released called "The Reason I'm Still Talking Shit"? Supposedly a "comedy" album. I have no idea what label, Heck, I know nothing about this, just word of mouth. HELP!! Thankee kindly!! ----HB
rostasi
Pretty dreadful really... I tried listening to that again last spring. I think it's been re-released on CD with Come On Down! Eddie trying to be Redd Foxx... Oh, and the actual title is (so you can search): "The Reason Why I'm Talking Shit" - it may read as "S--t". mikeweil
This is 9o% Eddie talking about this and that, recorded before live audiences. If you dig his humor, it's mandatory. If not ........
Harold_Z
As I recall it was comprised of the raps between tunes. It's something you listen to once.
rostasi
Actually, more like tunes between raps! A definite distinction 'cause there were only 4 musical... uh...interludes...of about a minute or so each that would fade in and out on side two. So out of about 40 minutes of talking about "pussy", "jackin' off", and "getting high", you were treated to a glorious 5 or so minutes of wandering horn blowing. Someone apparently told him his standups were funny, so I guess Eddie believed it. Edited October 12, 2006 by rostasi
chris olivarez
At one time I thought it to be very funny but now I think it had a lot to do with my chemical frame of refrence.I picked it up on cd ,listened to it once and I'm ready to retire it. JSngry
There's one or two of those musical interludes that are pretty mind-boggling. And there's one or two that aren't. I wonder if there's more of the former in the can. As for the humor, yeah, it wears thin quickly, but there's a good line or two. But the Harris humor is better displayed on A Tale Of Two Cities. Definitely one of those albums to have for the sake of having rather than to listen to, but hey - one of the undisputably great covers of all time:
