chris
IF YOU DON'T HAVE BRILLIANT CORNERS AND MONK'S MUSIC GET THE FRIGGIN DISCS. Sorry to be so rude, but Jeez. This is the recommendations forum isn't it? Sorry that we weren't all born with innate jazz knowledge like you apparently were, so we can magically know just what music to listen to. Especially with an artist like Monk who has so few releases, right? Damned if you do, damned if you don't in this place sometimes. (I kept the second version I bought, not this one, came out before this one).
papsrus
OK, I have a simple question: Is the "Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival" 2-CD set available anywhere for a more reasonable price than amazon? Or is that a reasonable price ($70) for a used copy. OOP and looks fine. But ... not having heard it, of course, thought someone here might know the score. thanks. AndrewHill
Don't think I saw these recommended but "Live at the Jazz Workshop Complete" and "Monk In Tokyo" are fine live Columbias, if you can find them at decent prices. And another for Monk's Dream, my favorite Columbia studio album. I also would recommend Monk's excellent "Piano Solo" from 1954 on Vogue and "Monk Alone" on Columbia too.
