David Ayers Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 (edited) Looks like more clicking to me, which I am not keen on ( I don't want to have to click and return to read about every single LP). Any thoughts? Oh and New Arrivals is not divided either by genre or by media type. The 'recently added' section you get when you click jazz contains different items to the New Arrivals section and, again, mixes LP and CD. Edited November 10, 2006 by David Ayers Quote
Eric Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Looks like more clicking to me, which I am not keen on ( I don't want to have to click and return to read about every single LP). Any thoughts? Oh and New Arrivals is not divided either by genre or by media type. The 'recently added' section you get when you click jazz contains different items to the New Arrivals section and, again, mixes LP and CD. On the new arrivals, the genre is on the left. So click on "new arrivals", the click on "jazz" at the left. I found that if you click on the term "jazz", you get all the jazz items, but if you click on the number next to "jazz", it brings them up by media type. One thing I do like is that if you find something that is on say the P-Vine label, it gives you a search option to see all the P-Vine material. You could do this before, but you would have to use the search engine. A nice enhancement. Quote
David Ayers Posted November 10, 2006 Author Report Posted November 10, 2006 Ohhhhh - I see. It is still a pity you have to click on every one to look for the personnel/ track listing Quote
JSngry Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 It's sexier, but I don't know that it's more functional. Fine for trickin' but once you've become a regular john like us, it's a little unnecessary. Quote

I had already written to DG to "complain". Not sure why the "default" page mixes the media type (at least that's where my old "new arrivals" link took me). If the CD's and LP's had at least been sorted/separated on that one page, it would have made things a little cleaner. At any rate, I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to figure out that I needed to click on the number to see just the new CD's... maybe instead of a number, they should have labeled it "CD's"? One other interesting thing is the list that comes up at the bottom half of the page for any individual title (with the heading "You might be interested in"). When I saw this feature on a page for a Brazilian CD, the titles were all over the place, kind of a random selection (a la AMG's "similar artists" or whatever the hell they call it). Kind of goofy, with 70's electronica and funk (albeit Brazilian electronica and funk) being suggested on a page for an early 60's bossa/jazz piano trio. At any rate, I noticed that the feature seems to work much better (more sensibly) in terms of jazz titles. At least at first glance... Quote
Stefan Wood Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 If it ain't broke, fix it........ I like the previous version. Quote
Dave James Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 What was wrong with the old one? It worked fine for me. Change for the sake of change has always sucked. Up over and out. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 (edited) I've only visited a few times since it's revamping but I am much more liking it after looking into it a bit more. (Having used anything for a few years gets you comfy but it is nowhere near as bad as when AMG changed it's gig.) I like the way you can quickly see what is "new" on the sidebar genre section and narrow searches so quickly by media - a big plus. The design of the page when you click on an item is nice as well with the top featured search and then other stuff that crawls in within the same area of the store and it's not just a word program to look at with little icons to scroll thru. I even like the 'related searches' mini tab. I think the whole look is more of a "perusing" feel that you had at the old rekkid shop - always stumbling onto something else by way of audiophilia ADD. It's a "groovy little website." Edited November 10, 2006 by Man with the Golden Arm Quote
