Dmitry Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Picked up this deep groove LP last week. Even though the LP regretably is only VG with surface noise, the music more than makes up for it. RVG's recording is nothing short of breath-taking. This is a perfect record. Superb. Amazing. If I were a girl I'd cry, but being that I am a grown man after I post this I'm going downstairs to open a bottle of vino to celebrate with my new pals Clark Terry, Junior Mance, Joe Benjamin and Charlie Persip. Na Zdorovje! Quote
brownie Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Yes, Dmitry! A very nice relaxed session with great sound from RVG. Hope you had better to drink with your new pals than a simple vino. Something like a Chateau Terrey Gros Caillou, an excellent wine from the Saint-Julien vineyars outside Bordeaux My DG copy sounds indeed excellent! No surface noise here except for a couple of tiny cracks! Quote
Dmitry Posted December 2, 2006 Author Report Posted December 2, 2006 Guy, I wish I had something more exquisite to drink thnn the bottle of port wine I killed yesterday night, after waking up with a slight buzzing in my head I still feel the same about this album. It's da bomb! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 That sounds like an album I ought to have. Has it ever been out on CD? MG Quote

Swinging Swede Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Yes, it is out on a twofer CD called Mellow Moods, which contains both Everything's Mellow and All American from the year after. Quote

RDK Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Na Zdorovje! I always wondered how one spelled that. Thanks! Quote
Chas Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 (edited) I have to say that I don't find the music on this record 'superb' . I say this as one who genuinely likes the Moodsville jazz-even-your-wife-will-like concept . Since I like pretty much all of the artists who recorded albums for the series , I discriminate on the basis of the selection of tunes chosen . By that measure this record is not among the best of the series in my view. As noted above , the CD has in additon to Everything's Mellow , Terry's version of the score from Mel Brooks' musical All-American . The score from this less-than-successful broadway show is not memorable . I would love to have heard the band ( which includes Budd Johnson , George Barrow and Eddie Costa ! ) playing different material . The CD doesn't sport either of the two original covers . Since this is the vinyl forum , here is what your quarry looks like should you wish to hunt them down : Edited December 3, 2006 by Chas Quote

Dmitry Posted December 3, 2006 Author Report Posted December 3, 2006 Life is funny sometimes. Yesterday I scored a Status pressing of this album in what looks like beautiful shape. If you have a decent stereo sustem and want to show your friends why you poured al that money into it instead of a new car, sit them down and play this record for them. If they still don't understand - never mention music in their presence again. You will only get frustrated and will possibly lose otherwise perfectly good friends. Quote
