Keith Jarrett's 1970s recordings.

Ethan Iverson's blog has got me curious about the 1970s recordings by Keith Jarrett with Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian. So, here is a philistine question: Does Jarrett vocalize (i.e. moan, screech, etc.) on these early recordings as he does in the more recent ECM recordings? I'm afraid that except in the case of Bud Powell, vocalizing by pianists is a real turnoff for me -- even a deal-breaker in many cases. I wish that I weren't so shallow and can overlook things like this, but there it is. I can't help it, and I've long ceased struggling. So, any info about this issue would be appreciated.

I don't recall noticing it particularly on the Impulses. That's not to say there isn't any. As has been said, you'll be too wrapped up in the music to notice.

The Impulse sides by that band are essential, but don't overlook The Survivor's Suite on ECM.

Oh... Dewey might be vocalising through the saxophone. Is that a problem? ;)
