Phish bassist Mike Gordon, 38, was arrested Monday, August 11th, on charges of child endangerment after he was found with a nine-year-old girl in a secluded boathouse during a show by the Dead in Jones Beach, New York.

According to New York's WNBC television, Gordon told police that he was taking "art photos" of the girl.

I'm not passing judgements before the actual judgement takes place, but as a father of a baby-girl, I'd smack him real silly.

According to the article I read, the girl's father is a prominent member of a local Hell's Angels club. They were invited backstage guests at the Dead concert.

Apparently some of Hell's Angels guys found Gordon with the girl, and may have dished out a little of their own brand of justice until the police arrived.

The article I read also mentioned something about Gordon and Phish trying to resolved this issue (payoff the family?) outside of court...

Clarifications Regarding Mike Gordon Arrest

Phish bassist Mike Gordon was arrested on August 11 in Wantagh, N.Y. Gordon, who was a guest of The Dead at Jones Beach Amphitheater the night before, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and trespassing in a closed area when he and a nine-year old girl were found in a boathouse near the back of the venue. A source familiar with the situation tells Relix/Jambands.com that Gordon and the girl were tooling around on his Segway scooter snapping photographs. “It is well-known that Mike chronicles many events and was taking pictures of the entire concert throughout the evening. None of the pictures that he took, including the pictures with the young girl, was inappropriate.” Gordon and the girl's family also released a joint statement, which reads: "We have had several discussions regarding the situation that occurred at Jones Beach. It is now clear to all involved that this was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and we look forward to putting this matter behind us."

Gordon is scheduled to appear in First District Court of Nassau County on September 29.

Who knows? I'd like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

this is outrageous. Was the chick actually naked or not? I didnt catch that. That is out of control. I met him at 5 am in the middle of the campground after 1st of 2 shows at the Gorge in july. he was totaly chill. he was on that segueway too as he is a lot. i asked him if they will ever cover any genesis and he said maybe the lamb lies down on b'way. they have to let him go though, no matter what he did. Phish are by far the greatest rock band of the 1990s, and one of the only to embrace the rock of the 70s and use that to build upon. what the hell is up with this though? Was it just relased today, cause if it happened on aug 11 and people knew about it, i would have heard about it on aug 11 beacuse my friends are all crazy about phish.
