chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 saw the lineup for no. 2 and it had some pretty good west coast jazz on it.... what do the other lps have, are these hard 2 find? Quote
brownie Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Those Jazz Off the Air vinyls from Spotlite were easy to find when they came out. No idea if they are hard to find these days! Volume 1 had one side from a Junior Jazz At The Auditorium 1946 concert with Howard McGhee, Lucky Thomson, Red Callender, etc and one side from a 1947 WNEW Saturday Night Swing Session with Fast Navarro, Bill Harris, Allern Eager, Charlie Ventura, etc.., Volume 2 (with Art Pepper, Teddy Edwards, Wardell Gray, etc...) you have, Volume 3 had 1944-1948 broadcasts by Benny Carter and his Orchestra. with Miles Davis, J.J. Johnson, Dexter Gordon, Lucky Thompson, Barney Bigard making short solo appearance, Volume 4 had 1943-1946 broadcasts by Cab Calloway and his Orchestra, with Ike Quebec. Don't know of any other volumes. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Vol. 5 (SPJ 149) had recordings the the Buddy Rich Quintet and Trio (and featuring Sonny Criss and the Davel Lambert Singers on some tracks) done in November 1958. Vol. 6 (SPJ 153) had two sets by the Oscar Pettiford Orchestra ("Birdland Band") recorded at Birdland on 26 May 1957 and Summer/Autumn 1957. Quote
Pete B Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 These are not so easy to find in my experience. It took me about a year of fairly intensive searching to locate vol 1-4. Being a longtime Pettiford fan I've had vol 6 for years. I've never seen a copy of vol 5, but I think it has been reissued on cd. Quote

I have that Pettiford stored somewhere! Passed the Buddy Rich while it was available Quote
