Guy Berger Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Looking forward to hearing this one. Guy Quote
Aggie87 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I'm in too! Not to threadjack, but FYI, there's also a Frisell/Carter/Motian EP available at billfrisell.com, though it's download only: And "Viktor Krauss II" is due out on Feb 20. Lee [Townsend]has just finished producing the bold and multi-faceted "Viktor Krauss II" by the astonishingly talented composer and multi-instrumentalist. The core band includes legendary L.A. guitarist Dean Parks and Matt Chamberlain on drums, percussion and electronics. Guests include vocalists Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Ben Taylor and Shweta Jhaveri. Bill Frisell also contributes to two songs. "Viktor Krauss II" is scheduled for release on February 20, '07 on the Back Porch/EMI label. Quote
Guy Berger Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 (edited) Apparently this album is coming out in late February in Europe though us Americans will have to wait until April. Here is the tracklist: 1. Cambodia 2. Wednesday 3. One Two 4. Whirlpool 5. In Remembrance Of Things 6. KT 7. This Nearly Was Mine 8. Party Line 9. Light Blue 10. Time And Time Again I have a few boots of this trio from last September at the Vanguard and they played a bunch of these songs there. "Light Blue" is Monk. I wonder if track 5 is the same tune the trio did (with Dewey Redman replacing Joe) on Trioism -- a tribute to Dewey? Guy Edited February 13, 2007 by Guy Quote

J Larsen Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Interesting conincidence that Motian is playing the Vanguard this week and Frisell next week. Would have been great to see them play together. Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 6, 2007 Author Report Posted April 6, 2007 Interesting conincidence that Motian is playing the Vanguard this week and Frisell next week. Would have been great to see them play together. You have that opportunity every September when this trio has its residency at the VV. Guy Quote
J Larsen Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Didn't realize they had an official September residency. Thanks. Quote
7/4 Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Didn't realize they had an official September residency. Thanks. Oh yeah. I went the last two years. Back on topic, I'll be checking this disk out this weekend, I just picked it up this weekend. Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 7, 2007 Author Report Posted April 7, 2007 This just arrived in the mail. Will post impressions after I've listened to it a few times... Guy Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 (edited) Preliminary verdict -- not bad, but these guys have made better albums. This version of "In Remembrance of Things Past" is not nearly as good as the one on Trioism, though it is one of the best things on here. Edited April 9, 2007 by Guy Quote
JohnS Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 I'm sure it's a good listen, but with a half dozen or more on my shelf I ahve to ask myself, do I want another. Quote
7/4 Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 It would be nice if ECM could be bothered to number the tracks on the cover. There must be something wrong with me if need to know, right? Quote
skeith Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Ok, I just picked this one up and have been enjoying it. Have to agree with others that it is similar to other recordings by this trio and breaks no new ground, nevertheless a solid release and I am digging it. Quote

Not their greatest work, but if you like their sound then you will probably like this one. Quote
Guy Berger Posted April 28, 2007 Author Report Posted April 28, 2007 amazon.com has an interesting interview (video) w/Paul Motian and Joe Lovano. They talk about the trio's history and the new album. Guy Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 I feel like you just have to look at the personnel and know exactly what kind of noodling is going to take place. Yeah, I know what I'm getting into every time I pick up a Frank Wright record, but at least it'll have some oomph behind it. Noodling can have oomph, too, but... Quote
