Aggie87 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I know it's early for March Madness yet, but since we don't have an NCAA hoops thread for this season, I figured it's time to start one. I just got done enjoying two great Texas A&M victories back to back in the last 48 hours. They beat #6 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday night 69-66, after clawing their way back from a 11 point deficit late in the 2nd half. A&M guard Acie Law had a great game against Kansas' best player, Brandon Rush, sinking the go ahead 3 pointer with 20 something seconds left in the game. Then tonight they beat #22 Texas at home tonight 100-82, in a game that was alot closer than the final score made it look like. A&M had two starters foul out early, and Acie Law went out with an ankle injury for a bit, but they played their trademark defense and came through with a great win. Texas has a GREAT freshman in Kevin Durant, who could possibly be the first pick in the NBA draft after his freshman year in college. Limiting him to 28 points tonight seemed like an accomplishment. The guy can score from anywhere on the court. I'm still in shock that A&M has turned into a basketball force. Three years ago they went 0-16 in the Big 12, and that was the norm. Now they're ranked #6, and are 20-3 and in first place in the Big 12. They could easily get ranked higher after tonight's win. I think they're a legitimate Final 4 contender at this point. Quote

I was at the KU game and watched Law drain that 3 pointer right in front of us. They showed great heart that night and looked awesome tonight. KU is going to have to play their butts offs to have a chance for the Big 12 title and hope for a A&M slip up. Hopefully we will see a rematch in the Big 12 tourney (too bad it is in OKC). The Big 12 is showing some legs ... Tech is tough, K-State is coming on and Texas will always be dangerous with Durant. Edited February 6, 2007 by Eric Quote
Aggie87 Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 That Kansas/K-State game on Wednesday is shaping up to be a good game, can't wait to see that. I think Kansas is only going to get better, given the youth on the team. I would have loved to have been at the Kansas/A&M game, the silence in stands when A&M pulled it out was amazing! Quote

I think Kansas is only going to get better, given the youth on the team. I would have loved to have been at the Kansas/A&M game, the silence in stands when A&M pulled it out was amazing! That is one way to view it I saw where Law apologized for the the so-called celebration at mid-court. I appreciate his class, but the apology was not necessary. I don't know any KU fans who were offended. That is what college bball is all about. Speaking of A&M, I have been to a couple KU/A&M games in Lawrence (which were surpisingly close). But I really admire how the A&M players, band and traveling fans get together after the game and sing the fight song/alma matter/whatever it is. Again, one of the things that makes college sports so cool. Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 1, 2007 Author Report Posted March 1, 2007 (edited) Great Texas/Texas A&M game last night! Horns won by 2 in double overtime. I'm not sure I've seen a player like Kevin Durant before. He's big like Kevin Garnett, but can do everything, seemingly. Dude can hit any shot on the floor, effortlessly. I think if he decides to come out, he'll be the first pick in the draft. And Acie Law sunk a 3 pointer for A&M to tie it and go into overtime, then hit another one to send it to double overtime. The guy has been Mr. Clutch all year long. Edited March 1, 2007 by Aggie87 Quote

Aggie87 Posted March 1, 2007 Author Report Posted March 1, 2007 Good luck to your Aggies-Aggie and good luck to all the mid-majors. Thanks Chris! Getting excited about Aggie basketball is something that's been foreign to me - back in my day the best player we had was Don Marbury (Stefon's older brother), who never even made the pros. Quote
Chalupa Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Let's hear it for the University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team. Last night Penn became the first team in the nation to gain a berth in the NCAA tournament. Go Quakers! Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Report Posted March 4, 2007 Nice win by Kansas over Texas today, to claim the Big 12 Championship. Durant twisted his ankle in the second half, and wasn't the same after returning. Kansas is peaking at the right time though. Will be interesting to see how far they can go. Why is the NCAA Tournament comprised of 65 teams? For some reason I assumed it was 64. 65 seems odd. Quote

sheldonm Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 I'm spending the weekend (Thursday-Sunday) in Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament as my company is one of the sponsors of the thing and I'll be hanging with customers and friends. Nice hospitality suite and a gob of tickets to see some good hoops, free eats/drinks. Not sure I can sit through four days of it though so I'll be sneaking out to the Green Mill to see Dana Hall's Quintet with Terell Staffor/Tim Warfield and then another night to Hot House for Herwig/Lynch's "Latin Side of Miles and Trane".....lots of good hoops and jazz! m~ Quote

Aggie87 Posted March 16, 2007 Author Report Posted March 16, 2007 March Madness! How did Louisville get to play in Lexington for the opening couple of games? That's like a home game for them! A&M's going to have their hands full on Saturday with the Cardinals and their fans. These are supposed to be neutral sites, aren't they? Quote
Aggie87 Posted April 6, 2007 Author Report Posted April 6, 2007 I guess it was just a matter of time, but Billy Gillispie has just been hired by Kentucky. Alot of sad Aggie fans today (I got 3 text messages by 9 am about it). I think he'll do well at Kentucky though, he's solid, and probably wasn't going to last at A&M anyway - one of the bigger name hoops programs was going to get him. I hope A&M is able to maintain what has been built over the last 2-3 years. I'd hate to slip back to doormat status, which we were for the past 20 yrs. Good luck to Kentucky & Billy G! Quote
