chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 1) lady bird/out of nowhere 2) keen and peachy/donna lee the cover is the weirdest cover ive ever seen- i cant even explain it- the back has a header of NOTES AND REMINDERS and the rest is blank...save at the bottom: distib. ray lawerence ltd PO box 1987, Studio city calif 91604--- haig club, sept 9 52 1/2 the session is the last session on the last cd of the PROPER wardell box-- now i have more from it---- has anyone seen this?!? its so weird Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I have that one too. Weird indeed ... apparently some sort of "limited ed. collector's issue" There were at least two more like this, one faturing an early SHORTY ROGERS (yeah, THE MAN! ) ) live session from the 'Coast. I haven't got the records right here to check but that Wardell Gray LP No. 101 came from the same live gig that was also featured on a Xanadu LP (I think it duplicates only one of the 4 tracks so it pays to have them both, unless you already have the contents of the Xanadu LP on that Proper box; yeah - what would Proper do if they hadn't earlier clean reissues to pick from? ) Quote
brownie Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 The West Coast label Jam Session had four releases: JS100 - Shorty Rogers big band recorded in 1953 at the RendezVous Ballroom in Balboa Beach JS101 - Wardell Gray (1952 gigs at the Haig Club) JS102 - Gerry Mulligan (1952 gigs at the Haig Club) JS103 - Superstars of Jazz (1952 jams with Wardell Gray, Sonny Criss, Chet Baker, Bob Enevoldsen and others at the Trade Winds Club, in Inglewood). Don't think there was more. I am pretty sure all the material has been released since on other various labels! Quote
