Clunky Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 BBC radio had a very good programme on last night about the recordings Louis Armstrong. I don't have any material from one area they covered 1935 to 1947. Alyn Shipton recommended two GRP Cds of Louis Decca sides from this period. I have a few Cds from this series and they aren't so hot, sound wise. What's the best way to go here for this period of Louis ?? LP or CD either would do. I see there's a Spanish collection of these dates, any good? Quote
jazzbo Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 The Spanish collection is okay sound wise. I think the Decca cds sound better, so if you're not that happy with those. . . . I'm happy enough with those. The Chronogical Classics disc from this period sound nice as well. There was a series of cds on Ambassador devoted to these Decca years. . . and . . .well I bet they're great. I never did buy them. I wish I had. . . there's material in those that aren't on cd elsewhere, just little bits. Quote
brownie Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 The Chronogical Classics disc from this period sound nice as well. Chronogical Classics issued a couple of boxes with their Louis Armstrong releases. I have Volume 2 '1932-1940. The black box houses six CDs. Great set! Quote
John L Posted February 26, 2007 Report Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) If you don't have the material on the RCA box, that is a great collection of music, some of my very favorite Pops. Part of it is from before 1935, but don't let that stop you. Edited February 26, 2007 by John L Quote
