Free For All Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 A little shameless self-promotion, please indulge me..... John and I will be performing at the Green Mill in Chicago on Friday, March 30th and Saturday, March 31st. With us will be Jeremy Kahn, piano, Kelly Sill, bass and Tim Davis, drums. We'll also be at the Blue Room in KC on Monday, April 2nd. In KC we'll have Roger Wilder, piano, Bob Bowman, bass and Tim Davis on drums. It's the Blue 'n Green tour! I've been looking forward to this for a long time....John and I have a lot of fun playing together. It will be more trombone than you could possibly want to hear. But in a good way. I hope to see some board members at both venues! Please come and say hello, I'll buy you a beer! Thanks, Paul Quote

John Tapscott Posted March 16, 2007 Report Posted March 16, 2007 All the best to Paul and John for their gigs together! Wish I could hear them. I just ordered John Fedchock's new big band CD called "Up and Running" on Reservoir. Quote

I just ordered John Fedchock's new big band CD called "Up and Running" on Reservoir. Fedchock just sent me a copy- it's excellent. Some very interesting versions of Embreaceable You, Moment's Notice, Alfie's Theme et al. I'll look forward to your comments, John! Quote

Free For All Posted March 16, 2007 Author Report Posted March 16, 2007 One short of a section. Is that the same as "one brick short of a load"? Quote
Free For All Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 Thought I'd bump this up since it's happening this weekend. I hope to see some board members at the Mill! And make sure you sit up close to the band, get really wasted and talk real loud! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 27, 2007 Report Posted March 27, 2007 And make sure you sit up close to the band, get really wasted and talk real loud! Oh, don't worry - I gotcha covered there. I'll try to think up some good requests too -- and shout 'em out during the bass solos. So, what can you do with two trombones, that you can't do with one?? Guess I'll find out Monday. Quote

Free For All Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 So, what can you do with two trombones, that you can't do with one?? Shut down the club twice as fast. Quote

And make sure you sit up close to the band, get really wasted and talk real loud! The good thing Dave does these days is to remind people they are there to listen to music...I wish more places would do that. Dave still wants you to get wasted, you just can talk about it! m~ Quote
Joe G Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 Heading down to Chicago in just a bit. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Quote
Joe G Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Excellent performance last night. Sounded like a real working band; good arrangements, good tune selection, and really good playing. Some wonderful solos from every member. Our man Paul was cookin'! :rsmile: Great to meet you, Brother! Quote
rachel Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 It was a fabulous show! The two trombones sounded beautiful together! I loved the ballad that Paul did in the first set. The KC folks are in for a treat Monday night. I thought all of the players were outstanding, especially the piano player!! It was such a treat to not only get to meet Paul but to also experience his music in a live setting like that. Have fun in KC tomorrow night! Quote
Free For All Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 It was great to finally meet Brother Joe and Sister Rachel in person. Both as lovely and charming as expected. Rooster and Spontooneous made it to the KC gig. Thanks as always, guys! It was sure a fun weekend- thanks for coming, folks! I appreciate your support. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Great show last night! Really loved the two bone version of Joe Henderson's "Afrocentric" (originally from Joe's "Power to the People"). Thought Tim Davis was really great too -- especially his comping on that cool arrangement of Giant Steps (BTW, who's arrangement was that?), and also Tim's comping on the Frank Rosolino tune. Tim was one definite highlight of the evening, among many. (Wished I could have stayed for the 3rd set - but I was draggin' big time.) Pretty good turnout too, I thought. Quote
Spontooneous Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 A very healthy turnout last night. And lots of people I've never seen at these events before. (Fedchock said, "See, you just have to have two trombones on every gig.') Paul plays "Old Folks" fairly often, but last night's was especially beautiful. Quote
Joe G Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 "Old Folks" was a highlight at the Green Mill, and his other composition of the night, "Bitter Jug" was HOT. Also wanted to comment on how rhythmically strong all the players were. Accents up da wazoo! Quote
John Tapscott Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Glad to hear everything went very well at the two gigs. I'd love to hear those guys togther in a live gig. And see, two trombones won't empty a club! BTW, I recently got John Fedchock's new big band CD "Up and Running" and it is EXCELLENT! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Also wanted to comment on how rhythmically strong all the players were. Accents up da wazoo! Sounds painful. Quote
DukeCity Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 BTW, I recently got John Fedchock's new big band CD "Up and Running" and it is EXCELLENT! So Paul, once you get settled in Florida, am I correct in assuming that a Paul McKee Big Band CD will be forthcoming? I hear "The Big Bands are Coming Back!" Quote
