Should be interesting! L'Atelier Tempon is at 14 rue Jules Valles in the 11th arrondissement. Good music expected. And excellent wines from southern France winegrowers are served at the bar Quote
Late Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Are you going? Sounds like an interesting show. I've heard Simmons (on CD) in recent years, but I haven't heard Murray on anything contemporaneous. How's he sound these days? Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 Exceedingly LOUD. Seriously, seriously, loud. And apparently erratic, although he was absolutely excellent when I heard him. Quote
brownie Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 (edited) Are you going? Sounds like an interesting show. One of the wines being featured at the bar will be 'Les Cailloux du Paradis' (Pebblestones from Paradise), an interesting wine from the Loire valley. Can't miss that! As for Sunny Murray, caught him last year. Yes he is loud but he is vital! Some of the most interesting drumming to be heard these days! Edited March 24, 2007 by brownie Quote

brownie Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 Enjoyed the music by Sunny Murray and his musicians last night. The cellar at L'Atelier Tampon was crowded but since it's a small place, attendance by more than 60 people created problems. The evening was filmed by a full camera crew and will be incorporated in a documentary about Sunny Murray now being made. Sunny Murray who was in a playful mood adressed the spectators with a friendly warning 'No cigarettes. If you want to smoke, you go outside'. He looked better than ever. The music turned out to be very well thought out with a good mix of slow and medium tempo tunes. A rather subdued Murray kept in the background, making sure the soloists were getting the appropriate support. He played mostly brushes and kept the flame alive throughout the proceedings. Simmons, Raux and Few all had enough solo spaces. Midshow was a fine opportunity to sample the excellent wines brought in by small winegrowers who insist on making original and authentic wines with 'grapes, more grapes and nothing but grapes'. It mixed well with the music Quote
