mingus tribute all day saturday.

Looks like the Mingus tribute is all day Sunday, April 22nd (his birthday).

from mingusmingusmingus.com: "WKCR (88.9FM) in New York: 24 hours of Mingus music, part of the station's Birthday Broadcast tradition. 12AM through 12PM. Primarily hosted by Phil Schaap."

Duke Ellington's birthday broadcast will be on the 29th.

Andrew Hill is on Monday.

Boy, Phil Schapp resembles an aural Energizer Bunny......goes on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on

yeah, but at least the Energizer bunny knows what he's talking about.

:D , I think it's the monotone drone that seals the deal.

You guys ought to show some respect for a guy (Schaap) who is thoroughly dedicated, who probably doesn't make a dime from his efforts at WKCR, and who has probably forgotten more about this music that you've ever known.

Coming from you, point well taken.

First, if he doesn't make a dime that's his business, not ours. Interesting to know but not important in the end.

Second, I'd say if he doesn't know something he'll imagine it and present it as fact.

In the end he provides a good service but a big "grain of salt" is needed before fileing this stuff away as "truth".

he's the curator of the jazz archives at lincoln center. he's doing well. guessing lots of other treasures are there to be found, or perhaps never to be found.

I think you mean Lincoln Center, aloc. John Hasse tends to jazz at the Smithsonian, under the title "curator of American music." BTW, looks like the Smithsonian's "Jazz Cafe" series may be ending.

thanks, ghostly one. thank god i'm not on the airwaves, spewing all manner of misinformation.

d.c. is a great jazz area, too.
