Shawn Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 One of those sessions that always puts me in a good mood. I believe this was the first album that Stanley & Shirley played together on(?), there's a perfect symmetry from the git-go. Not a "greasy" session by any means, but a very soulful, bluesy groove. Also of note is the lack of a bass player, which I think adds even more to the intimate vibe. The track Troubles of the World would go on just about any Turrentine compilation I would put together, My Shining Hour is another highlight. Any other fans of this one? Quote

Thoroughly enjoyable - like just about every other Turentine Blue Note (I can't think of any bad one he did in the 60s). I have a copy of this on the vinyl. This is the one credited to 'Little Miss Cott', of course. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 It is about the only whole album Shirley recorded without a bass. I like it a lot. "Troubles of the world" is a beautiful track, though it doesn't have the intensity of some Gospel renditions. MG Quote
NaturalSoul Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Anyone know why Shirley always used a bassist Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 I also enjoy this cd. The cover is one of BN's best too. Mosaic should have put out a 9 disc Stanley set and included the stuff w/ Shirley Scott. Quote
