Noj Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I like it, SS1. The tune "Music To Watch Girls By" is a classic. My favorite Willie Bobo stuff is on the Talkin' Verve compilation, including the tune "Dreams" from Juicy. His versions of "Evil Ways" and "Fried Neckbones & Some Home Fries" are not to be missed. Willie's "Night Walk" is good, but the Joe Torres version is the best one I've heard. Bobo also made some funkier material on Lost And Found and Do What You Want To Do, but I don't think it is as strong as his earlier albums. Quote
mikeweil Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 If you like any of Willie Bobo's Verve LPs, you will like this one - pretty much the same mixture. This was a party boogaloo band. Too bad - Bobo was a helluva timbale player, and the quest to have a crowd pleasing dance band lowered the level of his music. It's entertaining, but I wish he would have made some in the vein of Mongo's or Tjader's band along the way. His groove was unique, of course, and with Sonny Henry's guitar riffs, led the way for Santana. Quote
JSngry Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Is it just me, or does that chick's head angle look like she's had her neck broke? Seriously. Quote
