Was the 1956 solo Savoy ever released on CD?

This looks like being the latest (from 1979) reissue, on vinyl:

Can't trace a CD appearance!

That's what I thought. What a shame. I use that record (along with solo Bud and solo Barry Harris on Riverside) as a primer for my piano students learning how to play solo without striding.

The updated Tom Lord Discography lists 965 sessions by the gentleman

The Shin-ichi Iwamoto Hank Jones disography (only including dates up to the year of 1989) lists over 970 sessions!!

Regarding the Savoy solo album it really deserves to be reissued. I'm glad I found the 1970s reissue in a 0.30 euro bin(!) a month ago, as my Savoy original is getting rather worn.

Can anyone recomend Arigato by The Hank Jones Trio from 1976? I used to snap up everything I found by the man, but I have so much of his music now that I've back off a little. I saw this lp in a store today and almost bought it. Should I go back and get it?

Haven't listened to this one in a while but I remember it as being one of the best from the incredible number of Hank Jones trio dates that appeared in those times.

And if it's the Progressive LP release with the David Stone Martin cover, yes go for it!

Thanks. I can't recall the label, but it has a picture of Hank on the front, so it's not that release. I think I'll go back and get it anyway. I should have known.

I have the German pressing of this Savoy Jazz LP reissue, and it sounds like a needle drop to me. I cannot imagine the Japanese overlooked this gem of a solo piano record - I'm afraid there's a problem with the master/session tapes - damaged or lost.

Does the Iwamoto list *only* jazz?

A discography of Milt Hinton would probably be even longer.

Thanks Brownie and Daniel A.

I was asking because there's a bunch of "jazz" guys who were regulars in the studios in the 50s, doing pop, radio jingles, played in TV orchestras or whatever they were called for, people like Jones, Hinton, Osie Johnson, Joe Wilder, Danny Bank, Hal McKusick and a very long etcetera... and then studio hands who had big band experience and were able to jazz things up, like Bernie Leighton, Moe Wechsler...

These people are bound to appear in any record made in those years, but because there's not so much interest in pop and more commercial music discography (as opposed to jazz) we will probably never know the actual input these guys had in recorded American music.
