sidewinder Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Is it Shelly's Manne-Hole? (just a few doors down from the Baked Potato on Nth Cahuanga Bvd). Last time I saw it it was a print shop. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 All right, I give up. MG Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 lol oh hell yes it is: shelly's manne hole! we were walkin' buy and all of a sudden, instead of the print shop/check cashin' place or whatever, it was all open and shit and under construction--- and i was all: what the fuck? so i go in and meet the owner guy, he is turning it into a trendy bar, but he knows about how it used to be shellys manne hole, and he wants to incorporate some of that into the bar, like photos of shellys manne hole and stuff like that. i told him hell yea. i told him that he should have a 6-cd changer in the club with nothing but bob cooper cds. do u guys see the brick wall? thats the original shellys manne hole brick wall- i was suprised to see its still there, i thought w/ the new facade they re did it all----! The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Is he going to call it "Shelley's X-Man Hole"? MG Quote
JSngry Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 i told him that he should have a 6-cd changer in the club with nothing but bob cooper cds. It's only Sunday, but this is line of the week! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) lol oh hell yes it is: shelly's manne hole! Fascinating. When I saw it back around 1999 it was a non-descript walk-in print shop full of photocopiers and the like. It was hard to picture it as the Manne-Hole but from your photos it's not too difficult to recognise the place as being that on the Shelly Manne Contemporary covers. The far brick wall and the ceiling lamps give it away. Unfortunately I couldn't have a look around as it was at night (I was coming out of the 'Potato' having just seen Hank Jones) and the place was closed up and dark. By the way, I believe that Wally Heider's recording studio was right next door ! Edited October 21, 2007 by sidewinder Quote

And don't forget to throw in the CD of Bill Evans there. Quote
Ron S Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) Ooops. Found another one: Edited October 21, 2007 by Ron S Quote

Chas Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Is he going to call it "Shelley's X-Man Hole"? This alteration reminds me of the time I saw the joint listed as , " Shelly Manne's Hole " ................ kinda gave new meaning to , 'intimate nightspot' . Quote
Free For All Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Hey, I'm just happy to see a current photo of our pal Aric instead of that one that was making the rounds awhile back. Nice to put a face with them ca-RAZY posts! Quote
Parkertown Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Wow...Aric's gone all fancy, digital-photo uploading, internet savvy... Quote
