sidewinder Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Up again with this 'Vintage' thread. Enjoyed listening to Ray Russell's 'Secret Asylum' on Reel CD over the past few days. The original LP would no doubt have totally bombed in the shops. Here's drummer Alan Rushton as part of the 'cast' on 70s BBC kiddies TV show 'Play Away', for anyone who remembers that one. Is that also Spike Heatley on bass? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H8_W7yv2vk Edited August 17, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 Funny, there are actually two pressings of the Secret Asylum LP, one gatefold and one without. That band was also part of the Running Man project with organist/pianist/vocalist Alan Greed, which grew out of the Rock Workshop (still need that LP). Apparently some Running Man material was recorded with Mongezi Feza and Dudu Pukwana, which I'd be curious to hear. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) The Gatefold must be the UK pressing and the non-Gatefold the German/European one. Never seen either of them in person ! I remember hearing about that 'Rock Workshop' - if I remember correctly vocalist Alex Harvey of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was involved. Edited August 18, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 Yeah, I think Harvey was involved too. I've had both pressings of the Secret Asylum LP - gave the single-sleeve to a friend. Quote
