I tell you what! I think reading all of these previews I've linked gives you a better knowledge of the CFL than the NFL fan has of the NFL when he plunks down his ten bucks for his Street & Smith and Athlon Annuals!

And the season is underway!

Toronto Argonauts 30....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 17

If the Ticats can't beat the Argos, who can they beat? The Bombers?

Hamilton had a decent second quarter, but basically they were never in it.

Argos rookie Matt Lambros scored a TD on his first CFL reception.

Montreal Alouettes 40....Calgary Stampeders 27

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/als-...article1203774/

The Als took a 20-0 lead, but the Stamps fought back to tie it at 27 in the third. The Als scored 6 on 2 FGs in the fourth. With less than three minutes to go, the Stamps moved the ball downfield, but Henry Burris fumbled in the backfield, and Chip Cox returned it 81 yards for a TD to seal the victory.

During the game, play by play announcer Mark Stephen asked for emails, so I sent him greetings from North Carolina, which he read on the air!

Edmonton Eskimos 19....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 17

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1205000/

Here's a surprise. Jesse Lumsden injured his shoulder in the first quarter.

It rained for much of the game on Edmonton's natural turf, and it was a defensive struggle throughout. Near the end of the second quarter, the score was 2-2, with both punters conceding the safety touch.

Winnipeg had a chance to tie it on the last play of the game, but Serna's 47 yard FG attempt went wide.

Saskatchewan Roughriders 28....British Columbia Lions 24

Exciting game. The Riders dominated, but BC was able to keep it close on the scoreboard. Lots of fumbles. BC was driving down the field to win the game as time ran out.

Here's an article that says that Jesse Lumsden's contract calls for his income to depend upon the number of games he is able to play.

Here's one last preview - a good analysis of the BC Lions.

It looks like Derick Armstrong (arguably the Bombers' best player) is through with the club. He suited up for last week's game, but refused to enter the game when called upon due to a dispute with new coach Mike Kelly.

Ian Smart was injured in last week's game, so the Lions have signed Tyler Ebell. We'll see if he is able to perform after last year's injury.

The Eskimos have put Jesse Lumsden on the nine game injured list.

The Roughriders have hired Marcus Crandell to be their quarterbacks coach.

Mike Kelly has announced that Derick Armstrong will never again play for him and the Bombers. The team has offered him to the league as trade bait, and there have been no takers.

Unable to find anyone who would trade for him, the Bombers released Derick Armstrong.

As if their chances against the Lions weren't slim enough, the Ticats' top three tailbacks are all injured, so they will be starting their fourth string running back DeAndra Cobb.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 42....Calgary Stampeders 30

Calgary: What the heck is wrong with the Stamps? In both games they have allowed their opponents to get big leads in the first quarter. Both opponents have scored 40 points. I wonder if the defense is demoralized by the cutting of JuJuan Armour late in camp.

Winnipeg: I was very skeptical when Mike Kelly announced before camp opened that Stefan LeFors would be his starting quarterback. He had been in the league only two years, and had played very little in Edmonton behind Ricky Ray. But I have to say that he has looked pretty good both games so far.

After the Bombers-Stamps game, I took a 100 minute break, and then tuned into this. Imagine my surprise when the announcer said that there were six minutes left in the third quarter and the Ticats were leading 21-14!

Great game, with a particularly exciting finish, as the Lions really got their act together at the end.

DeAndra Cobb had a great game. He ran for 100 yards and scored a TD.

The Ticats-Lions game last night was so good that my appetite for sports is sated until next week. I listened to some of the first and most of the second of this game, but my internet connection went out, and I just decided that I had other things to do.

Sask scored 28 points in the last five minutes of the first half. Darian Durant has started six games for the Riders, and they have won all of them.

Uh oh. Paul McCallum disappeared from the Ticats game due to what the announcer said was an undisclosed injury. Today it was announced that while attempting to make a tackle, he broke his wrist and injured his knee. He should be out eight weeks. So now the Lions are in the market for a kicker.

Yesterday the Ticats caught a Bomber scout spying on their practice, taking 12 pages of notes (which the Ticats confiscated).

The Bombers' Arjei Franklin will miss 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury. IMO he is one of the best non-imports in the league, and the team is going to have a lot of trouble replacing him.

The score was 13-9 at halftime. But the Argos lost three non-import receivers in the first half, and they couldn't do much right after that. In the second half, the Stamps' defense scored three TDs.

This week is Retro Week in the CFL, with the teams wearing 1960s uniforms. Throughout the game in Calgary tonight, between plays the stadium played 60s oldies.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/foot...article1223678/

The Roughriders made a game of it for a half.

Anthony Calvillo tied Ron Lancaster for career TDs thrown. Lancaster held the record for about 30 years until Damon Allen broke it a few years ago.

After three weeks, the Als appear to be the class of the league.

Good defensive game. I guess when two bad teams play, somebody's got to win. Kevin Glenn played the second half and was good.

After three weeks, it looks like Toronto, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Edmonton need a lot of work.

The Roughriders have signed Graham Harrell, who received the ESPY Award as college football's best player in 2008 with Texas Tech. He also won the Johnny Unitas Award as the best senior quarterback. He was fourth in the Heisman voting.

Anthony Calvillo passed for over 400 yards, and moved into second place on the league's career TD passes list, now ahead of Ron Lancaster and behind Damon Allen.
