Great news (about Benny, not Mr M, whoever he was - I missed that, lol). He's far and away my favorite clarinet and I think he had the best sax section ever.

No, no relation to Keb!

And I'm also excited about the BG release. Is it still the case that it will be an all-instrumental affair and big band only? Kinda wish they'd include the small groups, though I know Legacy did a fine job with the Charlie Christian stuff. I remember reading they weren't going to include any vocals. I also assume it's studio only?

I certainly won't be getting rid of my Goodman "Giants of Jazz" box, that's for sure.

It will be a challenge for lunatic completists like me. Legacy has issued a fine Peggy Lee with Goodman set, and Collectables has a set for Helen Forrest and a Dick Haymes cd (who only recorded one session with Goodman before the recording ban). What (or who) else is likely to be missing?

Louise Tobin (1939), Mildred Bailey (1939), Tommy Taylor (1941), Tommy Dix (1941), Art Lund/London (1941-42 & 1946), Buzz Alston (1942), Peggy Mann (1944), Jane Harvey (1944-45), Kay Penton (1945), Bob Hayden (1945), Dottie Reid (1945), Liza Morrow (1945-46), Eve Young (1946), Nancy Reed (1950-51) & Helen Ward (1953) are among the vocalists that won't be included. Benny even took some vocals himself - I have no idea if those will be included.

The 1934-35 Columbia big band recordings aren't going to be included? Ann Graham, Tony Sacco, Helen Ward, Buddy Clark and Ray Hendricks sang on those.

The Baileys are on the Mosaic Columbia Bailey set, but I had no idea THAT many other vocalists recorded with BG. I'd forgotten about the 34-35 Columbias too, but since the "modern" Columbia label that recorded Goodman was actually started later, does BMG own those masters?

I wonder whether they might not go ahead and include the vocals by Goodman himself. Guess we'll have to wait and see!
