mr jazz Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I just picked up the cd really for my wife who loves Rosemary Clooney but any Duke is ok with me. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) I assume you're talking about "Blue Rose"? Nice album. Strayhorn arranged and sort of masterminded musically. Edited December 19, 2007 by jazzbo Quote

Big Al Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I think it's one of the Duke's loveliest albums, and one of Clooney's finest moments. The track "Blue Rose" is worth the price of admission alone, and the liner notes from the Legacy CD do a good job of detailing the behind-the-scenes work that went on to put this album together. Shawn Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 That's one that I don't have, sounds like I need to remedy that situation! Quote

"Behind the scenes" is correct in more ways than one. RC did not sing with the orchestra for this date(s), her vocals being added subsequently to the orchestral tracks. For some reason I can't pin down, I can't enjoy it as much as I do when I can visualize the singer performing in real time with the musicians behind her (him). Quote
mr jazz Posted December 19, 2007 Author Report Posted December 19, 2007 evidently she couldn't travel to the studio due to a difficult pregnancy (was it George?). I'm looking forward to receiving this music based on the above comments. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 evidently she couldn't travel to the studio due to a difficult pregnancy (was it George?). Ummm? If you're referring to George Clooney, he's a nephew of Rosemary. George is the son of Nick Clooney, a TV journalist/anchorman. (First reading of your note made me think you believed George caused the pregnancy...) Quote

(First reading of your note made me think you believed George caused the pregnancy...) my wife pointed out my mistake as well; however we both think this is wonderful music. All involved in top form.
