tonym
Pretty sure it's not Brahms; can't think what the slow movement of No 2 goes like at the minute -- it's none of the others. Neilsen? Or Richard Strauss? Chuck will be along soon!
rockefeller center
I found it. In case anyone is interested it's track 8 -> http://www.amazon.com/Brahms-Schicksalslie...s/dp/B0000267B2.
Chuck Nessa
and I was about to say it sounded like early Elgar.

Larry Kart
I found it. In case anyone is interested it's track 8 -> http://www.amazon.com/Brahms-Schicksalslie...s/dp/B0000267B2. Thanks. I was thinking what Chuck said. It's a nice reminder of the kinship between Brahms and Elgar, especially their shared inclination to disguise or even half-bury some of their hairier harmonic thinking. The blend of rest and unrest in this passage might be downright terrifying if it weren't so ... I don't know, cloaked. Schoenberg was really keyed-in on this aspect of Brahms; I wonder if S. heard much Elgar and what he made of him.

rockefeller center
Rock: what do you mean by this: "Well, thanks for reminding me of Tomatobluenote"??? A moderator's username on the blue note board was tomatbluenote which I used to misread as tomatobluenote.
