Rabshakeh Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I think my favourite of the novels is Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. They're all so very different for books that are all exactly the same. But Three Stigmata is by favourite. I had a weird thing for Valis in my earlier days and maybe still do. Someone upthread mentioned the indulgent later books and Valis is certainly that. But it did resonate with me. Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Thanks gents. I finished the last book so tonight I need to make a decision. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Well I just finished Second Variety. Definitely some strong stories, and more than a couple that didn't land for me. The title story hits hardest as its easy to think about in terms of both today's drones and AI. Unfortunately it did feel very much telegraphed that the "second" variety would end up being the woman and that he would send her to the moon to finish destroying mankind. And jeez but the guy was obsessed with insects as sort-of-humans, isn't he? And I definitely had a feeling some of these would have made fine Twilight Zone episodes. I don't think I will look for any more of his work but I am glad to have read this collection. Quote

I'd just repeat that the novels are much better in my view, and I'd really recommend Three Stigmata Eldritch out of them Quote
