Hot Ptah Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Fred Anderson is coming to the Blue Room in Kansas City in late July! This may seem like a relatively routine event in many cities, but in Kansas City a good avant garde or free jazz show comes into town about once a decade, or so it seems. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) Holy crap!! I am so there. Saw Fred live at the Iowa City Jazz Fest in '03 (same day as Andrew Hill), and was most favorably impressed. Can't believe The Blue Room is booking this -- good for them!! Those of us here in Kansas City need to be sure there are some people there, so let's talk it up among those with an interest in such things. Can we get 60 people there?? That'd sure be a good goal. Maybe 80?? Edited June 3, 2008 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Spontooneous Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Another practical goal: Can we make sure that nobody asks to sing "My Funny Valentine" with the band? Quote

jimi089 Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Very cool - is he traveling with his own band? Quote

Hot Ptah Posted June 4, 2008 Author Report Posted June 4, 2008 Please don't injure him. The audiences in Kansas City are sedate and polite. Unless his digestive tract cannot easily take in massive amounts of barbecue, he should be fine. Quote
Shrdlu Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Does he have the famous Kansas City swing? Quote
Hot Ptah Posted June 4, 2008 Author Report Posted June 4, 2008 What is great is that he does not have that old Kansas City swing. Kansas City listeners are awash in that old Kansas City swing. We need some variety. Quote
Another Place Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Did anyone stealth tape this HOT concert? We signed agreements with the Blue Room for recording but none took place. Would love to hear it again. Quote
