Jazzmoose Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Easy. Assuming you're setting up a sand box. Pick up the cat, carefully placing it in the sandbox. While holding him or her in the sandbox, take a front paw and dig it lightly into the kitty litter a couple of times. I've never had a cat not get it, and most have given me a look that says "why didn't you show me this before I pissed on the rug, you idiot?" On the other hand, if you meant you wanted the cat to piss in spoiled cowboy boots, I'm not sure... Quote

A cat can learn how to do it, spurred on by his instinct to cover up. His main thing is to cover up. If he hits the flush knob accidentally and sees that it cleans the bowl inside, he may remember and do it intentionally..... wow Edited August 4, 2008 by Willard Quote
Christiern Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 I am not fond of cats (allergic, too), so my advice is to suspend it over the designated spot. It's a guaranteed method. BTW, people who are named after a rat ought not to own a cat. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Train it the same way you trained the pony. Quote

papsrus Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Is it a male or female cat? It is not uncommon for a male cat -- especially one that hasn't been neutered -- to "mark" his territory. If you're going to keep this cat, you should get him or her neutered or spayed, and checked out by a vet. A vet will also be able to give you the best advice on the peeing thing. Cats are cool. ... Good luck. Quote

Tim McG Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) How to teach kitten good manners ? Need help here.... As luck would have it, we have a kitten right now, too. And as a cat owner of some 40 years, I have a little experience which might help. Keep placing the kitten in the litter box over and over. Eventually she/he will get it. Also, get a good carpet cleaner and clean the spot she/her peed/pooped. Then apply a scent immobilizer. Ask your vet or pet store owner; they will have product to sell you. Otherwise, the cat will return to the same place to pee/poop over and again. Best advice I can offer is you need to give the kitten a lot of positive reinforcement [good Kitty] and monitor her/him very closely...almost like you would with a small child. Be very hands-on and redirect the kitten to play with something [cat toy, etc] to occupy her/his attention. I highly recommend a cat scratcher. Whisker City offers some really nice cat stuff that keeps our kitten from getting into too much trouble. Also, get her/him on "voice command" ASAP. Use a higher pitched voice to call your kitty and a lower, sterner voice when she/he is screwing up. Food or cat treats are a great motivator/reinforcer. Dry cat food is best; you can leave it out all day. Make sure the water dish is emptied then refilled daily...keeps them out of the toilets. A squirt of water from a spray bottle works wonders. Trust me. Good luck! Edited August 9, 2008 by GoodSpeak Quote
Tim McG Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) BTW...since this is a male kitty, get him neutered ASAP! Male cats will pee to mark out their territory, but this will decline when they no longer have the, um..."urge to merge", you might say. Edited August 9, 2008 by GoodSpeak Quote
