jazzyepi Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Hi all - please take a look at a new website dedicated to Amiri Baraka's recorded work at www.amirimusic.com. Additions and suggestions are most welcome. Thanks- Marc Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Nice start. Should note "ESP M/S 1004" for the NY Art Quartet 1964 recording. There is also another NY Art Quartet recording on DIW on which Baraka reads, "35th Reunion." I don't have it so can't confirm the catalog number. Quote
jazzyepi Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Thanks, I added the info to the ESP release. The DIW is on there under June 1999. I saw the group a little later, pretty amazing. Quote
MartyJazz Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Hi all - please take a look at a new website dedicated to Amiri Baraka's recorded work at www.amirimusic.com. Additions and suggestions are most welcome. Thanks- Marc Back in '80, I taped a half hour broadcast off an FM station in NYC, possibly WKCR, in which Baraka gives a stirring recitation of 5 or 6 of his poems. Great stuff! Gotta transfer it to CD-R. Around that time, I also got to see him perform, and that's the right word, some of his material at a club in the Village. Also have the India Navigation LP with David Murray & Steve McCall backing him. Baraka is controversial but well worth digging if one's ears are open. Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 let's not forget his masterwork: "Get the Jews out of the World Trade Center." Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Yes, we all know LeRoi (good enuf for his mom, good enuf for me) went off the deep end a long time ago, but he did some good work before (and after?) he did. anyone here know anything about the unissued don Ayler album he produced/recorded?
