medjuck Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 One of the Gil Evans biographies suggests that Gil could have sued The Doors over Light My Fire because of its resemblance to his own Jambangle. But I think I remember hearing a Basie number that ended with that same riff. (The one that goes "Come along and light my fire" in the Doors' version.) Anyone know what I'm talking about or is this just another of my acid flashbacks? Quote

I can hear the resemblance between Jambangle & the one line in Light My Fire, but I doubt that there are grounds for a lawsuit. Quote
JSngry Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 (The one that goes "Come along and light my fire" in the Doors' version.) Is that like the Hendrix song where he sings "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy"? Quote
Bill Nelson Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Just listened to 'Jambangle' and, in the first seven notes of the melody, there's indeed a vague association to 'Light My Fire' -- it is vague. Quote
