Aggie87 Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 First college games of the year start tonight! How is your school going to do this year? Lock for a bowl game? Top 10? Cellar dweller? My Aggies have a new coach this year, former Packer head coach Mike Sherman. It's his first college head coaching job, so should be interesting to see how he fares. Most Aggies are glad that Dennis Franchione is no longer around. Not a very bright coach as it turned out - at least during his stint at A&M. The offense devolved/simplified into a one-dimensional option attack, and the defense disapppeared altogether with a crazy 4-2-5 lineup. Enter Sherman, who vows to get back to a pro-style, drop back passing offense, with a healthy running game to complement it. Steven McGee has the tools to be a very good passing quarterback, if they can find some receivers to catch the passes, not having had to do that the past couple years. And remember RB Mike Goodson's name - he may be a breakout star in the Big 12. I think they'll be ok on offense, but it's going to take a while to rebuild the talent on the D, so it's going to be a transitional year. I think 8-4 would be a good record, and head off to a lesser bowl game somewhere. I'd be happy with that if it looks like there's improvement over the course of the year. Quote
Noj Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 It's a transition season. No high expectations for this year, but give Neuheisel three to four years of recruits and the Bruins will be a force to reckon with! At the very least, I expect the offensive play calling to be noticeably improved. Quote

Aggie87 Posted August 30, 2008 Author Report Posted August 30, 2008 East Carolina upset #17 Virginia Tech today. Scored a TD in the 4th quarter to pull close, 22-20, then blocked a punt and returned it for a TD, and held on for a 27-22 win. Exciting finish. Bowling Green is on its way to upsetting #25 Pitt right now. Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 ok I'm gonna have to revise my 8-4 prediction. A&M just lost to Arkansas State in their opener, 18-14. Arkansas State!! And it was at home - broke a 20 game home opener winning streak. And it's Ark State's first win over a Big 12 opponent ever (they were 0-14 or something). Jeez... Maybe 6-6 is optimistic now, LOL. Big Al Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Shoulda never got rid of Fran...... UT 52, Florida Atlantic 10. Whose idea was it to match up these two? Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 Shoulda never got rid of Fran...... That's bad when i'm pining for the "good ol' days of Dennis Franchione" LOL. Never should have stole him away from Alabama in the first place. Bad karma ever since. Hell, never shoulda fired R.C. Slocum I don't think... Quote

I was in Greenville briefly today. I didn't see any signs of the victory, but I did see a billboard (college football billboards for season tickets are common around here) with Coach Holtz (Lou's son) which said "We're ready. Are you?" On my drive home I was listening to the Colorado-Colorado State game on Sirius. Near home, I stopped to fill the gas tank. During that brief time, I missed two kickoffs returned for TDs on consecutive plays! Quote

Noj Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 Worst loss I've endured as a Bruins fan. Not a soul showed up to play nor did a ball bounce UCLA's way. Quote
papsrus Posted September 14, 2008 Report Posted September 14, 2008 OK, the Buckeyes are road kill once again, and with that the Big Ten looks mediocre ... again. (I know, it's just one game, but ... 35-3 ??) USC looked like they could do anything they wanted against OSU. It's their's to lose, looks like. Georgia struggled against SC, so that's a setback for a squad many had pegged as the best team in the country. I think some of these SEC teams are starting to believe the hype. Careful. Still have to go out and prove you're the best conference. But ... a Florida vs. USC matchup would have some serious pyrotechnic potential. Would love to see that. Loved the USF Bulls beating Kansas on a last-second field goal. They made some defensive adjustments at the half that the Jayhawks apparently couldn't figure out until it was basically too late. And in the I-Can't-Stand-Either-One-Of-These-Teams Bowl, I guess Notre Dame blowing out Michigan has some satisfaction in it. Plus Weis got taken out on the sidelines. Someone should tell him you gotta keep your head up on the sidelines. Quote

Aggie87 Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 Oregon State looking good v. USC tonight, up 21-0 at the half. What's going on there, noj?? Carroll's gonna be all over them in the locker room. Meanwhile my Aggies suck again this year. I HOPE they can beat Army this weekend at home. No guarantees anymore. I remember the days when Kyle Field used to be almost impossible for a visiting team to come out of with a win. Quote
Noj Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 That's college football for you! I thought the Trojans would stomp the Beavers by about seven touchdowns. However, USC has lost two of the last three meetings at OSU, maybe it's a coaching matchup? Quote
Free For All Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 It ain't over yet. Looks like USC finally woke up. Quote

GA Russell Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 ...USC has lost two of the last three meetings at OSU, maybe it's a coaching matchup? Oregon State's Mike Riley won the Grey Cup coaching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers fifteen or twenty years ago. Quote
Big Al Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Go Blue! Helluva comeback today by Michigan, down 19-0 at the half! Don't you know that guy who was flagged for "ineligible receiver" that negated Wisconsin's 2-point conversion to tie the game up is kicking himself right now! When is UT gonna play a real team? Friends of mine, the husband is an Aggie and the wife is a Sooner (OU). I hate it when they have a good football weekend, like they did today. Quote
