Jim Dye Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 (edited) Fred "Rerun" Berry Dead by Joal Ryan Oct 22, 2003, 3:25 PM PT Fred Berry was well into his 20s when he was cast as a high schooler on the 1970s sitcom What's Happening!! Well into middle age, he was still playing the role. Berry, who portrayed the beret-wearing, suspender-clad teen known as Rerun on the 1976-79 series and was rarely without his signature accessories during the nearly quarter-century since, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Tuesday, E! has learned. He was 52. Edited October 23, 2003 by Jim Dye Quote
Joe Christmas Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Is that photo posthumous? RIP Quote
BruceH Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Let that be a lesson: Don't ever let yourself be cast as a high schooler in a TV sitcom. Quote

Soul Stream Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 I heard he was Prince's inspiration for "raspberry beret." Quote

Jazzmoose Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Hey, it's always sad when someone goes, but.... Well, all I'll say is that you guys have better memories than I do. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 R.I.P. Fred One of the highlights of my childhood was the time I attended a telethon, and the ENTIRE cast of What's Happening was there. I was so HAPPY! I loved that show. I just realized that two of my favorite shows ever both used the tag line: Hey, Hey, Hey. Fat Albert and What's Happening. Man, this is worse than the time that Rerun got caught taping the Doobie Brothers concert for Sweet Lou Dunbar. Quote
jacman Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 better living thru chemisty, eh Jazzmoose? considering all of the natural additives that i've consumed over the years, i'm surprised i remember as much as i do. Quote

Uh...okay; seeing as the show was in the seventies, you have a very good point there! Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 what's happening needs to be on dvd or tvland. NOW! which doobie, you be? ss1 Quote
AfricaBrass Posted October 23, 2003 Report Posted October 23, 2003 Does anyone remember when he got caught trying to bootleg the Doobie Brothers (on "What's Happening?" that is)? He got conned into tape recording the show by some shady dude that gives him front row tickets and then gets carried away doing his Rerun Dance, the tape recorder falls out of his coat and the Doobies stop the show. That one was a 2 part show!!! In part two, he redeems himself by setting up "Mr. Big" for a bust. Rerun always did the right thing....you gotta love the guy for that. That was a great episode! Quote
