Shrdlu Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 Great idea! I guess several of us have been acquiring vinyl copies of albums that are not likely to make it to CD. I have a growing pile. My latest is a fairly good copy of the "Peter Gunn" LP, the purchase inspired by an engineer's comment that none of the CD versions that he had heard had as good a sound balance as on the LP. I have only one CD version, and the LP sound spread does sound better. Sadly, you have the scratches on an LP. If only there were some way to eliminate them! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 This new forum has inspired me...I've been digging through the piles of old vinyl, digging stuff I haven't heard in years, and my wife reminded me something I said long ago. Here's how the conversation went... Her: "I was wondering when this was going to happen" Me: "What?" Her: "You going back to records instead of CDs. When we first met, all you could talk about was how bad CDs were and how great records were!" Jeez, I didn't even remember...I was Jazzhound and didn't even know it! Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Well, quality and obsurity issues aside, look at it like this. Let's say there's an album that you'd like to have for either sentimental reasons or for one or two cuts. but no way in Hades do you want the entire album. So what makes more sense - getting a decent condition used LP for 5-6 bucks (or less), or spending twice as much (or more) for a CD? Especially since you can burn the prefereed cuts to CD if the convinience factor is indeed an issue. Live better for less, I say. Quote
