Teasing the Korean Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Greetings - I don't know if something changed with an iTunes update, but: On iTunes, I have my import preference set for wave files. When I record original music (using ProTools) and bounce it to my hard drive, wave is set as the default format. HOWEVER: When I bounce original music (choosing wave format) and tell it to save the finished file to iTunes (with wave as the preferred import format) it shows up in the folder as an mp3 file. In some ways, I am grateful for this, because it saves me a step in process if I deliberately want an mp3. But, I don't know why these aren't being saved as wave files when that's the setting on both programs. Thoughts? Quote
Jazzjet Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Don't know if its anything to do with it but the import preferences all refer to importing CDs. I'm guessing you don't import from Pro Tools on CD so might this be a reason? Have you tried exporting files from Pro Tools to CD first and then importing to iTunes? I'm sure this isn't ideal but it might help isolate the problem. Also, on the Apple Discussion forum there's mention of iTunes skipping wav files since the upgrade to v 8.0 so this might be an issue. If you haven't already done so it might be worth raising the problem on the Apple forum as you usually get a helpful answer. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks, I'll try your suggestion and report back. Quote
GregK Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I don't know anything about that, but when I upgraded to iTunes 8, it killed my DVD-RW and DVD-ROM drives. They still open and spin a disc, but nothing happens. Device Manager says "error 41". After some googling, turns out it's a common problem with iTunes. One more reason for me to seriously hate iTunes but love the iPod. Quote
John L Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Thanks for the warning. I have been delaying my upgrade to iTunes 8. I always delay upgrades in fear that they will put some sort of spoke in the wheel. I have a very large iTunes library, and progressive upgrades have generally added negative value for me. Most of the new features concern videos and playlist functions that I never use. Yet the additional baggage has made iTunes itself much slower with large music libraries. Since iTunes 7, my computer freezes every half minute or so for at least 10 seconds. Quote

GregK Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 John L: maybe it's time to buy an Apple iMac!!!!!! Does that solve the problem? Yes. iTunes is not a problem on my iMac, just on my PC (although it's still an awful program) Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Yeah, the new iTunes 8 sucks. The whole "genuis" thing is dumb and bloated. I should've stuck with the previous version. For some reason now my iPod, when connected, never dims. The screen just stays lit the whole time it's plugged in, even if it's not doing anything, just charging. Quote
Parkertown Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 It seems to have killed my DVD/CDRW drive as well... fuckers... Quote

Yes. iTunes is not a problem on my iMac, just on my PC (although it's still an awful program) Thanks. That is good to know. That is another argument in favor of getting an Apple for my next computer. This first argument is Vista, which sucks even worse on a PC than iTunes. Quote
GregK Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 It seems to have killed my DVD/CDRW drive as well... fuckers... I had to clear the upper and lower filters in my Windows Registry to get them back (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B314060&x=12&y=13#), but now I get a warning message every time I open iTunes. Pain in the ass. Quote
