ValerieB Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Roscoe's is an institution in L.A.!!!! they've been here probably since the '70s and now have several locations. brunches on weekends are always packed there. i believe the main location is still in Hollywood. yum-yum!! Quote
RDK Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Roscoe's is indeed the place for chix & waffles - though I gotta say, as much as it pains me, I'm almost always slightly disappointed after eating there. It never lives up to my lofty expectations. Quote
Christiern Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 To me, chicken and waffles will always conjure up memories of many a night spent at Wells, in Harlem. This was the perfect way to cap an evening and the place was always filled with good times. Wells Supper Club (it closed about 9 years ago) had been serving c&w since the late 1930s—it was supposed to be a dinner to breakfast transition, of sorts. All I know is that it was great food in a great atmosphere. Quote

Soulstation1 Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 i've seen this one before and it $200 Too $$$$$$ for me Quote
RDK Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 i've seen this one before and it $200 Too $$$$$$ for me It's a nice machine and you really need something like that to make great waffles. Round is preferred, of course, and don't expect to make more than one waffle at a time since you need (ideally) a great deal of current to hit the right temperature and keep it there. We have a Cuisinart that was only around $30-40 that does a pretty good job. Quote

Free For All Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Waffles from scratch are best, but this mix makes a tasty one....... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 I have my mom's waffle machine. Damn thing has to be over 30 years old and still works like a champ. It makes the best waffles; perfectly cooked, everytime. I had to put a new electrical cord on it a few years ago, but it's a serious machine. It makes four rectangular waffles at a time, each one about the size of a postcard. Rocks!!! I think I'll make some waffles tomorrow morning for breakfast! Quote

Wells conjures up some wonderful memories for me, too! breakfast in the wee hours was the best! one of the first times i ever saw Sonny Rollins just hanging out in the mid-'60s. didn't Shirley Scott used to work there a lot? Christiern Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Yes, I recall that, too, Valerie. Jazz was definitely also on the menu at Wells. I believe I read somewhere that Roscoe's was inspired by Wells. Quote
Noj Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I've only eaten at Roscoe's once--talk about a calorie overload. I'll give them this much though--their waffles are second to none. Quote

Ah, but will they be 'second to none' in a month, when Soulstation1's product hits the plate (and palate)? Quote

Soulstation1 Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) Went to Dillards yesterday and they had Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker for $80 Seems like a great deal Edited September 27, 2008 by Soulstation1 Quote
Free For All Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Went to Dillards yesterday and they had Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker for $80 I have a Krups, about the same price. I think the kind that flips is the way to go- they create a lighter & fluffier waffle. Quote
Christiern Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) Went to Dillards yesterday and they had Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker for $80 Seems like a great deal Check Amazon—I think it's $70 or 75 But there is something about a design flaw...I'll dig it up. Here's a link re the alleged flaw. Edited September 27, 2008 by Christiern Quote
