paul secor Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) A little late with this - a friend mentioned it yesterday. A fine r&b singer. Recorded some great stuff for Savoy - Ray Charles' version of "(Night Time Is) The Right Time" added little to Nappy's original version. Nappy did it right the first time. Thanks for all you gave us, Mr. Brown. edit - Times obit. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/arts/mus...amp;oref=slogin Edited September 29, 2008 by paul secor Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Depressing. Soon nobody from the golden era will be left anymore. Time to play his "Little By Little" or others of his Savoys once more. R.I.P. Nappy Brown. You made some fine R&B - deedle you did! Quote
jostber Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Mr. Brown was a great R&B artist through the years since the 50's, and was keepin' on till the end. One of his later successes from 2007: R.I.P. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I have a Christmas song of his. I taped a Christmas radio show some fifteen years ago and he was on it. Play it every December. RIP Quote
ValerieB Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I have a Christmas song of his. I taped a Christmas radio show some fifteen years ago and he was on it. Play it every December. RIP was it "white christmas"?!? (no pun intended!) i seem to remember that he recorded that and it was a hit for him. Quote
randyhersom Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I saw Nappy Brown twice at Hickory, NC's late lamented Fast Company/Ten Years after blues and rock club. He was a fine entertainer and Lemon Squeezin' Daddy always brought the house down. I picked up his Ichiban CD and it always delivers. Well done, sir. Quote
