michel1969
I have recently made a trip on the "most difficult to access part of my record collection" (on a technical point of view). Among the records, I selected some : my criteria was : "I can't even remember where and when i bought those record, and what was the inspiration of the moment (if there was any)". By the musician's name i have a little idea of the kind of music... but i've no time to listen to them all. So, what record would you listen to first ? Here's the list : The "jazz modes" on Seeco. The "hall Keller Trio, "Debut" on Sound Record 602 (wow !! this label issued 601 records before this one ?) Phineas Newborn "Jamaica" Tony Perkins "on a rainy afternoon" RCA victor Joe Holiday "Holiday for jazz" decca John Graas "Jazzmantics" decca Slide Hampton "Horn of Plenty" Strand Corky Corcoran "The sound of Love" Epic Roland Kirk "We Free Kings" Mercury Paul Knopf "Enigma of a Day" PLayback Marv Jenkins "At the rubayat room" reprise Bobby Brack 'Kent "State Jazz date" Russ Garcia "Wigville" Milt Hinton "A bit of the Bues" rca Victor Thank you for your knowledgeable advice.... kh1958
I don't know most of these records, but Kirk's We Free Kings is a fantastic record. That would be my first choice. Next, curiosity would lead me to the Phineas Newborn.
captainwrong
Second the Kirk. Great album.
Teasing the Korean
That Phineas album is disappointing, IIRC. I'd go for Wigville by Russ Garcia. With a great arranger and that title, it HAS to be a winner.
BillF
John Graas, Jazzmantics is a classic West Coast album. (As such, I realise it's not to everyone's taste!) Jazzmantics, currently available on Lonehill, combines this album with Coup de Graas.
AllenLowe
Tony Perkins - wondering what that one sounds like -
