To summarize his comments on this Steve Allen show, he said that he had been trying to get a break in the music business with his large ensemble classical works, with no success. This was very frustrating to him, so he decided to try to perform in the least serious way possible, the silliest and most trivial way imaginable. He thought that he would be given national media exposure for that, when his serious works were being ignored. It worked. Quote
