ghost of miles Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) Hey all, an early holiday-season appeal (I'll bump it up later in the year) to buy Mosaic sets/Selects/singles, Nessa reissues, Organissimo CDs--or any other products put out by those we've favored or friended here--as birthday or holiday presents for those in your life who might enjoy such things. (Hell, send 'em to another board member!) I'm buying the Basie/Young Mosaic for a good friend who I know will get a blast out of it, and a Nessa title for another jazz-loving buddy. BeBop Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I'd agree on all three points, though mostly on the Nessas and Organissimos. I feel something more of a direct personal desire to support here. Mosaic is a great company, and I want to see them continue their good works, but BUY LOCAL! And there are other board members with recordings worth buying too. I recently picked up an Allen Lowe, for instance (though I couldn't keep it, and it became a gift - no reflection on the musical merit!) Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) probably a good thing, too - my cds are packed with an exploding dye which releases after about 3 months - Edited August 31, 2009 by AllenLowe Quote
David Ayers Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I guess my own feeling is that supporting issues of new music by current artists is the priority. Reissues are for collectors, the music is already out there anyway, and the artists are often dead so hardly needing a career boost... Quote

AllenLowe Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 (edited) actually, according to some sources (all of whom happen to be bass players in Maine) I died three years ago. Edited August 31, 2009 by AllenLowe Quote

ghost of miles Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 Sure, absolutely, support living artists (though last time I checked Organissimo qualified, as do several of the artists Chuck has reissued...and Denny Zeitlin and John Handy are still alive, though I get the point). I simply want to urge people to buy stuff from anybody with whom we share some kind of connection--and I know that some of these folks have not been enjoying boom times of late in terms of CD sales. Most of us here on the board already do our share of such buying year-round; I'm just putting out the suggestion that we throw a little holiday-season love that way as well--whether it's a Mosaic Select or the latest Vijay Iyer. Bright Moments Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 folks since this is on topic let me encourage you all to pick up fellow board member alexander hawkins' excellent cd "no now is so" this is an excellent cd! alex's webpage Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Agreed. I will be submitting my largest order to date with Chuck. Except for the AEC box, though I wish I had, I generally duplicate my orders... Copies for me, copies for my brother. Which leads me to mention a few albums that he has recorded on over the past year or so. Ps he's a bassist, by all accounts as dependable as a work dog. Fight The Big Bull | Dying Will Be Easy (Clean Feed) New album with Steven Bernstein this January. Ombak | Framing The Void (No Label) Ilad | Here//There (SYJIP) MAP Trio | MAP Trio (Slang Sanctuary) All of these are available at the usual outlets online, with the exception of the MAP Trio, which I will help you find if you are interested. It is VERY good. All music from the "burgeoning" Richmond VA scene. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I will also be getting Now No Is So. I love the preview samples. Quote
Jay Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 actually, according to some sources (all of whom happen to be bass players in Maine) I died three years ago. Hope that wasn't Rick Bishop. Quote
