ghost of miles Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Just got this in the mail yesterday & am really enjoying it. Some of the material also shows up on Coleman Hawkins' RAINBOW MIST (the Auld/Hawkins/Ben Webster sextet date, as well as a big-band date of Auld's), but I've never heard the sides he did w/Shaw's band post-Artie in early 1940, or the last few on the disc which come from his post-service, mid-40's band. Good stuff! I can't wait for the second volume, which the liner notes promise. I know we've discussed Auld on this board before, but he's become one of my favorite "overlooked" players & leaders from the 1940s. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Sorry nobody posted to this topic. The Auld Musicraft sides are worthy. He led a very interesting band. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Yes, I'm going to have to pick this up for the stuff I don't have. . . I like Auld. I have a Discovery 10" which is killer, and I like his later "In the Land of HIFI" and "Dancin' in the Land of HIFI" lps. . . I'd like to hear the Musicrafts and more. Quote
John L Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 This one is on my list too. I was hoping that it would show up in a local store. But it looks like I am going to have to type my credit card number over Internet one more time... Quote
mmilovan Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 It is pitty how so good musician can be forgotten. Auld certainly was strenght of BG sextet and combo sides at begining of 1940's. I like his "a la Webster" approach, he had nice sound. Quote
