chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 ok ok so this is totally a long time after ive stopped seeing rvg or vangelder in the deadwax of blue notes, but all of a sudden heres a catelogue reissue and wham: its def. the big blue 70s "b" label but there it says vangelder in the deadwax.....what is up with this??? sidewinder Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I've got a few of these 'blue label' BNs with the 'Van Gelder' in the wax. Some of them had the old 60s sleeves too. Sound on these can be pretty good if you pick the right one. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I just picked up a Horace Silver "Song For My Father" that's like this. Unfortunately, the LP was well played so there's some rice crispies on the lead-in, but otherwise it sounds decent. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Still using early metal parts. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 ohhh i see what yr saying i think Chuck, so youre saying, even though its a 70s issue, they didnt go back to the tapes and re cut stampers etc for the album from scratch, like they did with other 70s issues, but the 60's metal parts still existed and they just utilized the "old stock" to print the new discs, and thats why they say VanGelder in the deadwax and sound good? this is all very interesting!!! thanks you guys!! jeffcrom Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 I have several Blue Notes purchased during the 70s with the Van Gelder stamp - some with the blue-and-white label, some with the solid dark blue. Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 Right now I'm listening to my early-70s blue-and-white label ("Division of United Artists") pressing of The Sidewinder with the Van Gelder stamp. It sounds pretty good to me. Quote
spinlps Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Check out this link: Robert May BN Labelography. I have 70's reissues with RVG, VAN GELDER, and withouth either. Quote
