NEW YORK (AP) _ Bernard Brightman, founder of a record label specializing in vintage jazz and blues recordings, died Nov. 9. He was 82.

The label, Stash Records, released its first album, "Reefer Songs," in 1976. The album was a collection of songs, mostly dating from the 1920s and 1930s, about drugs. It was followed by "Copulatin' Blues," a compilation of songs about sex.

Later Brightman released albums by new jazz artists, including pianist Hilton Ruiz. He also continued to issue vintage material, including previously unheard archival recordings by Charlie Parker.

Stash was a very active label which issued numerous albums from people like Jimmy Rowles, Chris Connors, Red Norvo, Sal Salvador, Khan Jamal, Steve Turre plus numerous reissues.
