Dave James Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) I'm afraid if you listened to all three of these back to back, your ears might fall off. There was a time when I thought Starship was about as good as it could get, but then again, at that point, I also dug Iggy Pop & The Stooges. Not to engage in the black art of thread-mixing, but my fling with the Motor City 5 is an affectation of the person in me that I've learned to ignore. Up over and out. AllenLowe Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 thanks for helping me make the sale - personally I like the Rationals. Quote
Dave James Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Allen, I thought The Rationals were kind of like the stateside version of the early Kinks. We had bands in the Northwest that were like that. BTW, I'm not down by any means on the MC5, especially live. They may have generated more energy than just about any band around at that time. I still have "Kick Out The Jams" on CD. I admit to pulling it out every now and then when I need that kind of fix. Up over and out. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I knew all these folks back in the day and never got the records. YMMV. Quote
felser Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) I knew all these folks back in the day and never got the records. YMMV. Kick out the jams, %#$ers, er, I mean, brothers and sisters! And yeah, that John Sinclair was one lucid visionary, those White Panther dudes sure had it together. LOL, did that stuff ever age in record time. Their music still sounds exciting to listen to, though. RIP, Rob Tyner and Sonic Smith. Edited October 31, 2009 by felser Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) I gotta admit that, though I love that era of music, the MC5 just don't do it for me. A lot of motion, not much real excitement. that oughta convince somebody to buy it - Edited October 31, 2009 by AllenLowe Quote
BFrank Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 what's the audio quality of those recordings? bootleg? board? better? Quote
Hot Ptah Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 You could probably sell them at the Steve Hoffman forum--and generate 82 pages of discussion about them. Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 the audio quality goes from good to bootleg, though all listenable. ahh, the Hoffman forum. Sorry, not in the mood to be escorted from the building AGAIN this week - Quote
