medjuck
I just got a 2 cd re-issue of Mike Westbrook's Marching Song Vols 1&2. Great record but for some reason the notes only list the soloists on vol 2. Did the original release of vol 1 list them? Anyone have it? sidewinder
Just checked my Deram vinyl Vol 1: 'Hooray !' - Dave Holdsworth (tpt), Mike Osborne (as), Bill Price (crowd sounds) 'Landscape' - Bernie Living (flute), Harry Miller/Barre Phillips (bass duet), John Surman/Mike Osborne (sax duet) 'Waltz (For Joanna)' - John Surman (soprano) Hope this helps ! One of Mike W's best, for sure. And a good one to spin on Armistice Day. Edited November 11, 2009 by sidewinder
GA Russell
I had this one when I was in college. In the US, I'm pretty sure that it was his follow-up to Love Songs. I remember seeing Bernie Living in May of 1970 in DC when he was with Manfred Mann Chapter Three. Great band!
sidewinder
I think the Marching Song Vols 1 and 2 preceded Love Songs but will have to check. The latter is a pared-down Concert Band with some electric instrumentation added.

One of my favourite early 70s bands but never got to see them. Do you know whether there are any live recordings of them?

BTW I really like Chapter 3 too and managed to obtain a CD of Chapter 3 Volume 2 a little while ago although it's not available now more's the pity. Perhaps one of the specialist reissue companies will do the decent thing. Mike Hugg was very underrated as a songwriter.
felser
Mike Hugg was very underrated as a songwriter. But not as a singer, which was the achilles heel of Chapter 3. Fascinating albums nonetheless.
